you may be surprised, as was i, that noone bought my lovely sequined shoes on eBay. someone bid an insulting $10 for them. so i will accept this fate and wear them. there will be a way to wear them and not look like something that just got off a vegas strip joint, and considering the season, i hope i won’t look too out of place in my sparkles. we are going out to drinks and dinner tonight with friends, so if you are in portland tonight and see a woman wearing sequined shoes, please compliment her on them. i’ll be so very grateful!

you may not have noticed, but i was in a crabby mood all w-e. the lovely PB was away in LA, which usually is fine and allows me to do all the things we don’t do (shop, eat meat, wake up way too late), but this w-e, it just made me crabby. it doesn’t help that i watched “la vie en rose” on DVD, quite possibly the most depressing biopic ever. i knew La Piaf’s life was tragic, but cooome ooooon. maybe if I had been in another mood, but this w-e I needed something like Sixteen Candles or the Rachel Papers (i am dating myself here). i am grateful to the Golden Compass for providing the rest of the w-e entertainment.
this morning , in fine cranky mood, i got an email from my friend N who owns one of the stores most of my $$$ go to. she had made palmiers, they needed coffee, i should come over asap. i didn’t need much enticement ( i love palmiers, i love N’s coffee, and N is great). i got there around 10.30, by 11.30 we’d eaten all the palmiers, had 2 coffees, and opened a bottle of bubbly. yep that’s right. it was 5 o’clock somewhere, and we were both helping each other out of a funk. and guess what? it worked!!!!
not only am i in a better mood, but PB is taking the earlier flight home, i fit into a great pair of jeans, and the tailor had time to hem them. and my sister announced she’s coming for a visit in february! what a reversal! now if only i could get back to writing my book…
if this post doesn’t make sense, blame it on mme cliquot (or whatever her more affordable and most delicious cousin’s name is)…
i am much better at buying on ebay than i am at selling. so far, no bites on the shoes. ebay tells me people have ‘visited’ the item, and one person is ‘watching’ it, but no one wants to ‘buy it now’. fascinating really, don’t you think?
i also walked her royal highness in a park today – we were quite alone as things were wet, but a kind gentleman walking behind us announced himself as he neared us – “i don’t want you to think i am coming up behind you”. i appreciate the thought, but 1) you ARE coming up behind me, 2)why should i worry about that? and 3) did you see the size of my dog??? of course i didn’t say anything of the sort, but one meets the strangest people.
the rest of the day was spent with the NYT crossword puzzle, reading the Golden Compass (way better than Harry Potter, this is children’s lit an adult can read) and wrapping pressies.
total work accomplished on book this week-end = absolutely nil.
guilt about this = moderate
what am i going to do about it? check in with me tomorrow…
ok, so the sequined pumps might not have been such a brilliant idea. i mean, when am i EVER going to wear them? it’s not like i go to a lot galas, and even if i did, those are not the shoes i’d wear. as i was explaining to a friend last night, i think i bought those for my inner drag queen, and she doesn’t get out much (ever), so the shoes have to go. i admit that it didn’t help when my sister sent me this picture in response to my purchase. isn’t my sister funny? hiiilarious.
so i am now selling my first item on eBay. if you are looking for brand new pair of never worn sequined silver pumps, they can be yours at well below the MSRP!!!
i have just recently discovered the myriad uses for the dashboard on wordpress. i can correct spelling mistakes i made 3 weeks ago, i can easily add to my list of books, and i can see how many people have visited my blog!!! the blogstats don’t tell me how long my 5 readers spent here, but 5 people somehow found their way to this blog. how? was it the “dogs” categories? the “oregon” in my blog name? i have no idea how anyone would find me here. how do i get to the blogs i usually read? i think i travel from blog to blog, navigating by some blog-reading compass. is that how you got here, my 5 readers? do tell.
there will be more on dogs, for those of you who care. her royal highness is most entertaining. she’s even sporting the latest fashions, something she never used to stoop to. but it is too cold, and her elderly self required some wool on her back. i hope you appreciate the attached fashion shot (even if you have to turn your heads)…
there may be more on oregon, especially as the winter gets darker and i post pictures of summer to brighten things up. as for that book i am writing – i am writing it, i might even be able to send a couple of chapters and a proposal off before year’s end. how totally amazing would that be??? trust me, it would be, in the words of one of my students, “totally rad”.
that’s right, totally rad.
not as in the TV morning show, but as in the one i have from my desk today: 20071210_0500.jpg
i wish i knew how to make the file smaller and have it on the screen, but you will not be sorry to click on it – it is a wonderful view of Mt Hood in the distance and the glorious valley that separates me from all that snow.
